SPECIAL PROJECTS

The Big Scrub Environment Centre is currently developing two important local initiatives that have the potential to revolutionise the ecological value of the way we do business.

The Northern Rivers Sustainable Industry Expo

Following on from the success of the Northern Rivers Sustainable Industry Expo held in June this year, the Big Scrub Environment Centre is looking to develop the Expo as an annual vehicle to showcase ecologically sound enterprises to the general public as well as to interested commercial and government organisations.

To encourage local industries to incorporate environmental sustainability into their activities resulting in economic benefits such as reduced waste going to land fill, maintaining the value of natural resources in the region and improved efficiency.

Attract investment in regional sustainable industries such as native foods, renewable energy production and organic agriculture.

Encourage by demonstration how land owners, investors and entrepreneurs can create sustainable industries, such as native foods, organic produce and alternative energy.

Create markets for products such as native foods and organic produce by putting producers in contact with regional and national suppliers.

EcoMart Australia

EcoMart is a Big Scrub Environment Project that, if achieved, will provide genuine substance to implementing principles of ecological sustainability at local level. At the same time, it will secure a continuous flow of funds to local Environment Groups. I believe this to be a unique innovative pro-active service that may be carried out by independent local Environment Groups to the benefit of local communities and the environment that sustains them.

The EcoMart Australia project aims to:

Encourage local small business enterprises to achieve ecological sustainability.
Assist them in marketing their ecologically labelled products.
Inform consumers about the necessity for sustainable consumption.
Provide consumer product information.
Empowering self-sufficient local communities by strengthening local economies.
Improve the networking capabilities of local Environment Groups at regional and national levels.
